Biography - Spencer Hu


Dr. Hu has twenty-nine years of experience in telecommunications and computer industries. He has accomplished multiple product developments, activities including business planning, product definition, software/hardware development, product rollout and international distribution.

Dr. Hu organized HCS in early 2003 to develop an effective wireless solution to satisfy the demand for broadband in rural as well as enterprise markets. Within a year, he has built a core team of seasoned technical leaders to conduct initial design. Also, he has brought in achieved entrepreneurs as advisors to address financing. Prior to HCS, Dr. Hu did hands on architectural development at MAYAN Networks. He brought flexibility and high performance to a multi-service platform for service providers.

Earlier, Dr. Hu was the founder and President of Supernetics. He has built an efficient team developing wireless LAN chips. He has also built joint ventures with China PTT to develop an early stage DSL platform, and with Taiwan for a wireless VSAT MUX. Products developed by Supernetics were homologated for the networks in Italy, China and Egypt. Supernetics' digital telephony systems were shipped in volume to Southern China.

Prior to Supernetics, Dr. Hu was Director of VLSI Operations at Motorola/Codex. He led the development of the first generation WAN chip set, in addition to generations of modem chips. Also, he was the Director of Corporate Technology Center at Wang Labs, where he
built a team from ground level up and delivered products like the first generation LAN for PC.
Prior to Wang Labs, Dr. Hu was Project Manager at Digital Equipment, where he led the development of the PDP-11/23 chip set for an early stage microcomputer.

Dr. Hu earned his PhD in electrical engineering from Northeastern University, and BS in physics from Tunghai University in Taiwan. He served the community as a Board Member of the Massachusetts Technology Park Corp. to promote practical training in high-tech.
